As our society changes, Social Workers are faced with new and different challenges. Still, their dedication to placing children in safe and permanent homes has not changed.
What has, are some of the strategies for locating relatives (kinship care), recruiting foster families, and addressing the needs that necessitate removal from the home to begin with.
Fortunately, Virginia has increased funding for child welfare worker training. The Training and Best Practices workgroup will create learning modules and develop guidance to share statewide.
By standardizing training and making it easier for social workers to see what’s working in other localities, the Commonwealth’s goals of strengthening family connections and increasing permanency are more attainable.
